HOUSTON Women are not the only ones flocking to the doctor s office to get cosmetic procedures done these days. Men are also hitting up the clinics to get a shot of their new secret weapon Bro-tox!
Jerry Scott, a 44-year-old bassist for the band Shotgun Lucy does what he can to look young.
I try to take pretty good care of myself; exercise, drink lots of water, the rocker said.
The rest he leaves up to Dana LeConey at the Institute of Anti-Aging.
Botox is used cosmetically to remove wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles.
This (Botox) is not going to alter your look. It s just going to take away the angry look, the frown look and make you look less stressed, LeConey told Scott.
The procedure has become so common for men that LeConey and other professionals in her field have dubbed the procedure Bro-tox.
Men are our fastest growing patient base, LeConey said. Divorced men, in their 50s and 60s, are coming in and saying Oh my gosh, what can you do to make me look young?
In fact, three out of ten patients LeConey treats every day are men and it s a growing trend nationwide.
From 2000 to 2012, the American Board of Plastic Surgery has seen a 258-percent increase in men getting Botox.
Scott gets his treatments every three to six months and is convinced the procedure has taken years off his face. Even though it s a pricey habit, he says he won t stop doing it.
I d probably look five years older at least, he said. If you can do something to make yourself feel better, then I think you should do it.
The procedure can cost anywhere between $250 and $500 depending on how much Botox is needed.
LeConey said besides the Bro-tox, more men are getting hydrofacials; laser treatments for brown spots.
