According to the National Center for Health Statistics, vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for children 14-years of age or younger.
Experts say some of those deaths could have been prevented had the child been restrained properly.
In San Antonio last year, 1070 citations were issued for incorrectly installed child car seats. In 2012 there have been 1636 citations so far authorities say.
To raise public awareness and educate Texans on the importance of correctly installed child car seats, Texas Department of Transportation is launching a new campaign.
National Child Passenger Safety Week kicks off on Monday, Sept., 16.
Child car seat check-ups will be happening across San Antonio leading up to a National Car Seat Check on Sept., 22.
