Anthony Allen never expected his Labor Day holiday would begin like this.

Allen s mother called around 8 a.m. and told him someone was in his backyard in the 7000 block of Tierwester. She lives on the next street.

Allen said he rushed outside and saw someone driving a Chrysler 300 repeatedly backing into his driveway gate until the gate broke. That s when he went inside a grabbed his shotgun and pistol.

When he kept backing up, I started shooting, Allen said.

He started firing into the back of the sedan, hoping that would make the man stop, but it didn t.

When police arrived they also had a hard time getting to the driver to stop. When they finally did, everyone was shocked when the driver got out of the car.

The suspect was completely naked and appeared to be high on some sort of substance, according to police.

Police tried to Tase the suspect, but that did not work. They eventually had to physically subdue him.

The suspect was taken to Ben Taub Hospital, where he is expected to fully recover.

Allen believes he may have shot the suspect in the chest, but that has not been confirmed.

It s a little different. What a way to start Labor Day, he said.
