HOUSTON Jolanda Jones is fighting to keep her seat on Houston City Council and in the last few days five city council members have come out against her.
Jones is in a runoffagainst Jack Christie.
Thursday, it was business as usual for Jones at City Hall even though some of her colleagues have made it clear they don t want her there.
In a mailer that went out to voters, Councilmember Sue Lovell blasted Jones for allegedly calling the President of the Houston Professional Firefighters Association a house negro.
I cannot vote for someone who talks to our firefighters this way, Lovell said.
In another mailer, Councilmember Pam Holm stated: I am supporting Jack because Houston deserves a better kind of leader.
I don t think voters care about that, saidJones.
The councilwoman says she s not paying attention to the anti-Jolanda Jones ads.
My campaign and my office are totally dedicated to the issues that concern voters and citizens and the constituents of Houston, she said. So I don t have any comment on the activities of some of my colleagues.
Councilmember Mike Sullivan has his own mailer.
Jack Christie is a professional. Sullivan wrote. He won t let petty politics or political grandstanding get in the way of representing Houstonians.
I hear constantly from my constituents that she is disrespectful and is a distraction at city council, Sullivan said in an interview with 11 News. That she is a loose cannon, political grandstanding.
Jones calls the ads distracting to voters.
All I can pay attention to is the issue voters want and voters will tell me come Saturday. I think voters want us to pay attention, said Jones.
