HOUSTON - A verbal altercation turned into a shooting outside a grocery store in southwest Houston on Sunday night, police said.

According to Houston police spokesman Thomas Ferguson, it happened in the 10400 block of W. Bellfort Avenue around 9 p.m.

Patrons in the food store said two men started arguing outside, and one of them pulled out a gun and shot the other one multiple times. At least four to five shots were fired, witnesses said.

The victim, who was in his early 30s, was sent to Ben Taub Hospital where he later died.

Witnesses said they recognized the gunman as a shopper at the store, but they didn t know his name. His description was not released.
