CONROE, Texas The woman convicted of killing two people in a deadly wrong-way crash wants taxpayers to pay her bill for an appeal.
A Montgomery County jury sentenced Nicole Baukus, 23, to 15 years for the first count of vehicular manslaughter, 15 years for the second count of vehicular manslaughter and 8 years for vehicular aggravated assault.
Baukus was caught on camera at a bar downing 21 drinks before driving the wrong way in the I-45 near The Woodlands.
Baukus wants Montgomery County to pay as much as $10,000 for court transcripts to use in her appeal.
The evidence against her was and is overwhelming, said Montgomery County Assistant District Attorney Andrew James. We re not surprised by any of this.
Baukus appeal says she was not adequately represented by her trial lawyer.
