THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- At 22 years of age, Alexis Alpha is a successful marketing student at Texas State University in San Marcos.

Vibrant, intelligent, and not the kind of person you would expect to have a run-in with police.

A cell phone video taken on May 29 shows Alexis in an altercation with a San Marcos police officer, however. She says it was just after 1 a.m. when she was leaving a bar to say hello to some friends across the street.

She walked between Corporal James Palermo s squad car and a vehicle he had just pulled over.

I wasn t the only one who walked between the cars, Alpha said in an exclusive interview with KHOU 11 News. Several people walked between them. I was just the one he called out.

Alexis, who s from The Woodlands, says Palermo became increasingly belligerent as he questioned her.

I could kind of tell like he wanted to start an argument, and at that point, I was polite from the beginning, and the meanest thing I said was 'you re in a bad mood, and you re taking it out on me. You re just being a d***k.'

That s when the officer grabbed her by her shoulders, took her four or five steps backwards, and then slammed her on the car.

And then he grabbed me and threw me face down into the concrete, and he sits on my back while he handcuffs me.

Witnesses backed up the student s story, saying she suffered two broken teeth after being slammed on the ground.

Alexis, who also suffered a concussion, has since had three root canals and nearly a dozen visits to the dentist. Polermo arrested her for obstruction of justice, resisting arrest and public intoxication, but all of those charges were later dismissed.

When he took me to the hospital, I insisted on a blood alcohol test, she said.

As for the man who placed her under arrest, he s on restricted duty but still getting paid as the investigation continues. He has also been charged with aggravated assault.

It s personally painful that any officer, much less officers that work under my command, would engage in this kind of conduct, said San Marcos Police Chief Howard Williams.

The Alpha family said it s weighing its legal options.
