HOUSTON One man was killed and three other people were wounded after a male suspect fired almost a dozen shots outside an after-hours club early Saturday in southwest Houston, police said.
The shooting happened at 5:52 a.m. in the parking lot of Manny s Place, located in the 9700 block of Bissonnet, according to homicide detectives with the Houston Police Department.
Two of the victims were security guards, one man and the other a woman, police said. The second female victim was a club patron, who was hit twice by stray bullets.
The second unidentified male victim was also a club patron, who was taken to Ben Taub Hospital where he later died from his wounds, according to the medical examiner s office. v From what we can tell, there was a shooter from the corner of the hair salon, shooting in the direction of the club, HPD homicide investigator Jesus Sosa said.
Investigators said the shooter used a high-powered rifle. The suspect fled the scene in a dark-colored Ford Bronco.
I was across the back side trying to get some food and I heard the shots and my friends were on their way out the door, Leresa Cozart, a club patron, said. It was chaos, shattered glass, people laying on the floor, blood everywhere, people screaming.
Cozart and her girlfriends were out for a night of fun. The girls wanted a break from their jobs, as Chili s servers.
That s the worst feeling is knowing that someone you know got hit. It was pretty tragic, said Cozart, who is a friend of the female club patron who was wounded.
She got hit twice, once in the shoulder and once in the hand. She was just an innocent bystander coming out the club, Cozart said.
There were about 100 people inside the nightclub when the shooting occurred, police said. There is no sign outside of the club that identifies the business.
One of the witnesses said that the business is one of those after-hours clubs that people find out about through word of mouth.
Nearby businesses weren t allowed to open up shop because the parking lot was part of the crime scene.
I m just trying to get my hair curl and go home to take care of my momma, said Pamela Steadham, a customer from the beauty parlor.
The three victims, who were wounded, are expected to make a full recovery. Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
