HOUSTON A mother and her baby were badly injured in southeast Houston Monday when a car crashed into them.

It happened around 1 p.m. in the 8500 block of MLK near Thrush.

Witnesses said a pickup stopped in the middle of the road without warning. The driver of a car swerved to miss the truck and hit the woman and baby.

The 7-month-old baby suffered severe head injuries when he hit the windshield, according to police at the scene.

The lady was laying right there in the grass and the baby was laying in the grass, said J.B. Manning, a witness. They ran over and got the baby and started CPR because it wasn t breathing.

A nurse who lived nearby performed CPR until emergency crews arrived.

The babywas rushed to the hospital where he is reportedly in critical condition.

The 18-year-old mother was also taken to an area hospital in stable condition.

That s a tragedy man. It s really sad to see something like that happen, said Cornelius Alix. It happened so fast. My main question: the guy in the truck, he just stopped.

Police questioned both drivers and they are still investigating.

So far, no charges have been filed.
