HOUSTON Police said early Friday a suspect driving a sport utility vehicle rammed the front of a northwest Houston convenience store before being scared off by a passing officer.

It happened around 1:15 a.m. on Antoine Drive at Acorn Street, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said the male driver slammed into the front of a corner store, knocking down its protective security bars and breaking glass. It appeared the man was in the process of burglarizing the store when an officer drove by.

The SUV took off, resulting in a chase that lasted about five minutes. Eventually the suspect jumped out and ran away on foot, police said.

The store s owner said the man didn t get away with anything, but he claimed there was about $15,000 in damage. He said this is the second crime against his business in the last two weeks. Previously the store was robbed at gunpoint.
