HOUSTON -- Houston Dynamo midfielder Colin Clark has been suspended for three games and fined for directing a gay slur toward a ball boy during a recent game.

Clark used the slur in Houston s 2-0 loss to Seattle on Friday and apologized on his Twitter account on Saturday.

Major League Soccer announced the penalty Wednesday, adding that the league will not tolerate this type of behavior from its players or staff at any time, under any circumstances.

The league also ordered Clark to attend diversity and sensitivity training. Clark says he s personally apologized to the ball boy.

The Dynamo said in a statement that Clark made a regrettable and inexcusable mistake for which he is being disciplined.

Clark has started the Dynamo s first three games and played a total of 262 minutes.
