HOUSTON A Cypress woman accused of hiring a man to kill her firefighter husband made her first court appearance wearing an orange jumpsuit Thursday morning.
Brittany Martinez is accused of approaching a manager at a Casa Ole in northwest Harris County and asking him to kill her husband, Adrian Martinez.
It happened between January 17, 2012, and March 4, 2012.
She provided, I believe two payments of $500 and she was going to provide more once the husband was deceased, said prosecutor Paula Hartman outside the courtroom.
Hartman explained to reporters that she had just received the case and couldn t get into too many details, because she needed to familiarize herself with the case.
High-profile attorney George Parham was hired by Martinez s father to represent her.
It s a bizarre scenario, but we are going to delve into it and talk to as many witnesses as we possibly can and try to get to the bottom of why, said defense attorney George Parnham. She has not had any priors as far as I know, never been incarcerated before, she s just a scared young lady.
Martinez is an emergency medical technician. She has worked for the Westlake Fire Department and is currently working at another fire department in the county.
Martinez attended Mayde Creek High School and graduated in 2005, Katy ISD confirmed.
Friends say she was in orchestra. She was shy, but would go out of her way for her friends.
The allegations and her arrest came as a complete shock to those who knew her.
Martinez s attorney said the couple has two young children, who are currently staying with other relatives.
Martinez was being held in the Harris County Jail Thursday afternoon, and her bond had not been set.
