HOUSTON Twins brothers charged with murder after police found them living with their mother s bug-infested corpse have been placed under the guardianship of relatives.

Attorney Ali Fazel said Thursday that a probate court judge has ruled that 48-year-old Edward and Edwin Berndt don t have the mental capacity to care for themselves.

The Houston Chronicle reports a state district court still must decide whether the twins have the mental capacity to stand trial.

Police found 89-year-old Sybil Berndt s body during a welfare check last month.

The brothers told police that their mother fell on Jan. 10 while they were watchingthe BCS championshipfootball game. They left her on the floor because they said they didn t have any money to get her medical treatment. She died three days later.
