HOUSTON -- Police have arrested a man they believe may be responsible for sexual assaults in downtown Houston.

Damon Hines is accused of pushing a Precinct One Constables Office employee in a downtown parking lot Wednesday morning before taking her purse. The victim was on her way to work.

Committing this act in broad daylight it's pretty brazen, said Constable Alan Rosen.

She was treated for minor injuries.

Witnesses said they saw the attacker run away into a building on Congress. Constables used K9 units to find Hines hiding in a mechanical closet.

They said he also lives in the building where he was found. Investigators said he has a lengthy criminal history.

We're glad to get him off the street, said Rosen. Glad to have solved the case.

Hines will be charged with aggravated robbery. As he was arrested, Hines spouted off nonsense. He will undergo a mental health evaluation.

News of the arrest comes as a huge relief to women who work and live in the downtown area.

He's been a threat to all of us, so it's been pretty scary, said Diantha Brennan. I know I'm relieved, and so are most women downtown.

The Precinct 1 Constables Office will work with HPD's Sex Crimes Unit to figure out what other crimes Hines may be connected to in the Harris County Courthouse Complex area.
