HARRIS COUNTY, Texas When Neela Nigudker woke up early to walk her dog in front of unit 1204 in the Grand Villas apartments near Katy, she had no idea what had happened there the night before.
Detectives with the Harris County Sheriff s Office found a man and woman dead inside around 10:30 p.m. in the complex located in the 1500 block of Katy Gap Road. They appeared to be in their 40 s or 50 s.
It s definitely scary, because I live here, said Nigudker.
Neighbors had been complaining about a foul odor for several days. Finally, one of them called 911. When investigators walked into the apartment, they said the bodies had been there for at least a week.
It doesn t appear like a stranger did anything. It may be a murder-suicide, but it s hard to determine at this point, said HCSO Sgt. Robert Spurgeon.
James apartment is directly above unit 1204.
I have a little bit of a smell over my apartment, but that was just lately, said James. You don t know. You don t want to go around saying, hey I think there is a dead person there. And I m in and out all the time.
He would occasionally chat with his neighbors, but never noticed anything out of the ordinary.
Oh yeah, it was a couple weeks ago. General stuff, he comes out and we talk. I ve known him for a couple years. I didn t hear any fights. I didn t hear anybody yelling or screaming, said James.
Neighbors, coming and going with their day, were shocked when they found out what had happened.
Everybody knows who lives here. We recognize each other. We are friendly but not as friendly as we could be, said a neighbor, who wished to stay anonymous.
Detectives have not released the deceased s identities.
We believe they are the residents but, they have been deceased for a while. But it s gonna take the autopsy to determine that, said Sgt. Spurgeon.
Until then, people living there and walking by will have plenty of questions about what exactly happened in unit 1204.
