An American Airlines jet bound for Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport made an emergency landing in Abilene on Tuesday afternoon, the carrier confirmed.

Flight 1225 took off from Cabo San Lucas, Mexico at 1:45 p.m. CT. An American spokesman said the MD-82 jet experienced a pressurization issue along the way and the decision was made to divert the jet to Abilene about 160 miles short of its destination.

The jet with 133 passengers and five crew members aboard landed safely at 4:15 p.m. at Abilene Regional Airport.

Mechanics were inspecting the aircraft to determine if it can continue to fly, or if another plane will be required.
