KISSIMMEE The Houston Astros have sent six of their top prospects back to minor league camp.

On Thursday, the club optioned 1B Jon Singleton while RHP Mark Appel, IF Carlos Correa, OF Delino DeShields, RHP Mike Foltynewicz and OF George Springer were reassigned.

Springer, who many Astros fans were hoping would be named to the teams Opening Day roster, will start the season in Oklahoma City. He hit .161 (5 for 31) during the Spring.

The idea of having Springer start the year in the minors isn t that much of a surprise. If the club waits until June to call him up, then he wouldn t be eligible for free agency until 2019.

Singleton made news off the field when he admitted his struggles with a marijuana addiction. During the spring, he hit .154 with one home run, 4 runs batted in and nine walks.

Correa got sent down one day after being hit in the wrist by a pitch in a game against the Washington Nationals. X-rays were negative.

Foltynewicz allowed eight hits and struck out seven in 10 1/3 innings this spring.
