MANVEL Manvel Mavericks head coach Kirk Martin is proud of every one of his players that sign on to play at the next level.

However, Signing Day 2014 is extra special.

Martin s son, Koda Martin, signed his national letter of intent to Texas A&M on Wednesday in front of family, coaches and friends at Manvel High School.

A&M really stood out, they ve bought into all the traditions there. It s a different place than anywhere else, Martin said. I m really looking forward to it.

Martin, who played defensive end and tight end at Manvel, told KHOU 11 Sports reporter Matt Musil that the goal is to eventually play offensive line at Texas A&M.

I ll just be ready to go no matter where they put me, Martin said. If they redshirt me that s fine. If I get to play right away, that would be great too.

That attitude is what made him so successful as a Maverick. Not seeing him in a Manvel uniform will definitely be a change of pace for his father.

It is going to be different and fun at the same time, Martin said. His leadership is what we ll miss the most. His passion and faith is what I will miss the most about that kid as far as impacting my program.

I m looking forward to the new chapter in my life, Martin said before he signed. My dad will always be one of my best friends and my role model to take after.

Manvel had four other student-athletes sign letters of intent. Kyle Tamase is going to HoustonBaptist University, Kaelin Cooksey is headed to Texas Southern, Darius Hester to Kilgore and Daman Burket to Southest Prep.
