HOUSTON Texans running back Arian Foster is fighting back against a young woman who claims she is pregnant with his baby.
Foster s attorney filed a countersuit Tuesday morning, accusing Brittany Norwood of defamation. The suit said Norwood is lying about Foster with the intent to extort monies from him.
Norwood s attorney sued Foster last week, saying he and his brother caused emotional distress by allegedly pressuring her into getting an abortion.
But in audiotapes of a conversation between Foster and Norwood, she is heard saying I never once said that you told me to get an abortion.
Norwood told KHOU 11 News Monday night that Foster implied that she shouldn t have the baby in text messages.
One message from Foster said because of the situation we re in, we can t bring life into the world under these circumstances.
Another message said I know you feel strongly about being a mother and all that but I can t lose my kids man.
Foster is married and has two children.
I don t take back anything I ve ever said, Norwood said after the recordings were made public. I ve been through a lot. I have. But I m staying strong and I m going to be a great mother.
Norwood insisted she is not seeking publicity, even though her mother admitted the family was shooting a reality show based on their unique mother/daughter relationship.
All that started over a year ago, said Danna Sellers. We re moving forward. We re moving forward and it has nothing to do with the child.
Foster has yet to speak publicly about the lawsuit, but efforts to reach an out-of-court settlement appear to have stalled.
We re seeking money damages, said Norwood s attorney Doug York. And once 12 people get in a box as jurors, we ll let them decide.
Norwood, who said she had received death threats from strangers over social media, said she won t back down.
The truth is the truth, she said. I m not a home wrecker.
Foster s lawsuit refers to the first interview Norwood did with KHOU that spread to the internet and was picked up by Sports Illustrated, NBC, USA Today and a number of sports-related websites.
