HOUSTON A Houston mother accused of leaving one of her sons inside a beauty salon has been arrested and charged with child abandonment.

Police responded to a report of a child found Tuesday at 8:11 p.m. in the 11900 block of Bissonnet Street.

Tammie Lakesiah Ellis, 36, brought her two sons to the beauty salon to get haircuts. The salon worker said at about 7:30 p.m., when the oldest son s haircut was finished, the woman paid for both haircuts and left the store without speaking to anyone. She took the older child with her, but left the youngest son, who was still getting his hair cut, investigators said.

The police officer drove the child to Ellis s home at 8:45 p.m., but she was not home. He spoke with the neighbors, but they said they hadn t seen Ellis at the home recently.

One neighbor told the officer that Ellis was always losing and looking for one of her kids. The officer remained at the house until after 9 p.m. but Ellis didn t return home.

The officer took the boy to the Child Protective Services Chimney Rock location and left him with CPS case workers. CPS case workers found Ellis was already in their system.

The officer returned to Ellis s home to see if she had returned, but she wasn t there. Neighbors told the officer that Ellis had returned and was looking for her child.

However, as of 10:25 p.m. that night investigators said Ellis had not called police to locate her son, or answered phone calls from the officer, CPS or her neighbor.
