HOUSTON More than a dozen families were displaced early Friday when a 3-alarm fire swept through their southwest Houston apartment complex.
The swift-moving fire leapt from one unit to the next at the complex in the 7300 block of Hillcroft at Rowan.
High winds fanned the flames, making it more difficult for firefighters to bring the situation under control. Luckily, no one was injured.
When you are talking about winds that are maybe shooting 10, maybe 15 feet into the air and across, because the wind was pushing them laterally, it makes it really difficult and dangerous for firefighters and occupants, and HFD spokesman said. That s why we called three alarms, close to 120 firefighters on scene were able to make a good aggressive stop and continue to the building of origin.
The entire building was destroyed, leaving 16 families without homes.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
