HOUSTON A two brothers are wanted in connection with a string of robberies at area motels in east Houston, according to the Houston Police Department.
Anthony Carl Brooks, 28, and his brother, Jeffery Carl Brooks, 25, are charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon with bail set at $100,000, according to court documents. Both suspects remain at-large.
HPD said that on Feb. 12, the two brothers robbed Interstate Motor Lodge in the 13200 block of the East Freeway Service Road.
The brothers are said to have taken $300 from the cash drawer and another $700 from an ATM after they used a stolen debit card from the motel employee on duty at the time of the robbery.
The victim said that it all started when Anthony Carl Brooks approached him in the office asking him for a plunger to fix a toilet in his room. Brooks came back again and said the plunger did not work and the employee went to get him a second plunger from the supply closet.
The employee then locked up the motel office and headed out the back door where he ran into Anthony Carl Brooks again. Brooks said the second plunger did not work. The employee told him that he would have to change his room and instructed Brooks to meet him in the lobby.
Brooks then drew a gun at the employee and told him to let him in so he could get the cash. Brooks then emptied the cash drawer.
It was at this time that Jeffery Carl Brooks exited a vehicle he was waiting in outside, and came inside the office to help his brother, police said. The brothers told the employee to go sit at a picnic table outside of the office.
They told him to give them all of his stuff including his credit and debit cards. Afterward, the employee was able to escape and run and hide in one of the motel rooms. There, he called police and waited for them to arrive.
Police were able to identify Jeffery Carl Brooks by the ID card he used to rent the motel room. After a background check, police connected the Brooks brothers to a string of robberies at motels within the same district.
