DALLAS Police are investigating a fatal shooting Tuesday evening in a parking garage at the UT Southwestern Medical Center campus in Dallas.
Nothing like this has happened here in three decades, according toRussell Rian, UTSouthwestern spokesman.
Someone heard multiple gunshots and called police, he said. When police arrived they discovered a woman who was unresponsive on the third level of Garage 2 on campus about 7:35 p.m.
The garage is located at 5303 Harry Hines Boulevard near the southern cloverleaf exit at Inwood Road, across from a Wendy's restaurant.
A text alert sent to UT Southwestern employees about a half hour after the shooting described a dangerous situation on campus, adding: UT police are investigating a possible homicide on campus near Garage 2.
The entire campuswas placed on lockdown, meaning people inside classrooms and laboratories locked themselves inside.
The alert was rescinded at 11 p.m.: UTSW situation is under control. Please resume normal business operations. No imminent danger. Believed to be an isolated incident.
Police did not immediately identify the victim, a suspect, or the circumstances of the shooting.
Dallas police and homicide detectives were called to assist UT Southwestern police at the scene of the crime inthe well-lit but little-traveled parking garage.
One staffer told News 8 the garage is primarily used by staff and researchers instead of hospital employees.
