HOUSTON The mother of a baby who was killed during a drive-by shooting is hoping someone will come forward to help police track down the gunmen.
I want justice, said the woman who asked not to be identified. I have to be her voice now and I want justice.
Thetoddler named Forever died just one week shy of her first birthday.
I m not at peace. My baby was only 11 months old. She didn t get a chance to do anything, she said.
The incident happened in the early morning hours of August 19th near the intersection of Ponnel Lane and De Walt Street in Acres Homes.
The mother said she and her baby were in a car driven by a friend. They had just pulled up to a relative s house when they noticed the burglar bars had been pried open.
So she put the car in reverse to back out and as soon as she did, gunshots rang out, she said.
The mother said she covered her baby girl and tried to protect her.
I didn t realize she was shot. I raised her up and when I did, my hand went through a hole in her back.
Forever died at the hospital with her mother at her side.
I was talking to her, telling her to wake up and saying that I was sorry, she said.
Police have released surveillance video that shows two male suspects at the home where the shots rang out.
Investigators believe someone saw something and a local activist is urging community members to help out.
There s no such thing as a no-snitch policy when you re gunning down babies in cold blood, said Quanell X. I m encouraging everyone in the community who knows who did this to turn these brothers in.
Houston Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
In the meantime, a mother faces a lifetime without her little girl.
I tried to protect her as best I could, but I feel bad because it wasn t enough, she said.
