BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas A 23-year-old man was behind bars Thursday, accused of fatally shooting his father after a charred corpse was found on the family s property, Brazoria County investigators said.

Clinton Anthony Sutton Jr. is charged with murder.

Deputies were called to Sutton s home in the 600 block of CR 400 Tuesday by his girlfriend.

When they arrived, Rebecca Victoria Steinett-Humaran told them she d been choked by her boyfriend. While they were questioning Sutton Jr. about the alleged assault, deputies said he confessed to killing his father, Clinton Anthony Sutton Sr.

Deputies searched the premises and said they found evidence that a homicide had occurred.

Armed with a warrant, deputies returned to the property and found charred human remains in a wooded area nearby.

Investigators said Sutton Jr. admitted to shooting his father in the head. The younger Sutton reportedly said he shot his dad after someone else shot Sutton Sr. in the back.

Deputies recovered a .44 magnum pistol and several assault-style rifles from the property.

The whole deal for me is just bizarre, Capt. Chris Kincheloe of the Brazoria County Sheriff s Office said. [Steinett-Humaran] told me they were arguing. Everybody just got into a big argument, and that s how the day started. It started that morning.

The burned remains were taken to the Galveston County Medical Examiner s Office for autopsy.

Investigators said they had to identify the remains using dental records.

Sutton Jr. was taken to the Brazoria County Jail, where he was being held Thursday on $2 million bond.

Steinett-Humaran was also taken to the Brazoria County Jail, on an outstanding warrant out of Montgomery County.

Deputies said the investigation was ongoing, and they were working to determine if there were any other suspects involved in the murder.
