HARRIS COUNTY, Texas -- A large gas leak was reported in northwest Harris County early Thursday after a construction crew hit a gas line.

The leak was reported around 8 a.m.

Spring Cypress Road was closed in both directions at Avenfield Road near Eldridge Parkway. Drivers were detoured to Louetta Road.

Aerial views from Air 11 showed several firefighters and police officers at the scene. Natural gas was shooting from the ground.

CenterPoint Energy crews were called to make repairs. A company spokesman toldKHOU11 News the leak occured in a 4-inch line, but it wasn't known how long the repairs would take.
