AUSTIN, Texas -- John Devine has defeated Texas Supreme Court Justice David Medina for the Republican nomination for a spot on the court.
Devine, a former district judge, faces no Democratic opposition in the November election for the Place 4 seat.
Devine received attention while he was a judge for fighting to keep the Ten Commandments on display in his Houston courtroom.
Medina had been on the Supreme Court since his appointment by Gov. Rick Perry in 2004.
