HOUSTON A hit-and-run driver was arrested for DWI early Wednesday after returning to the scene of an accident, according to Houston police.

Police said a car was traveling westbound on West Alabama at Mandell around 2:30 a.m. when the driver struck a woman who was either walking on the side of the road or trying to cross the street.

The woman was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in serious, but stable condition.

The driver initially fled the scene, but had a change of heart and returned.

Police determined he was intoxicated and arrested him for DWI.
