HOUSTON -- The elephants, bears and flamingos have their swimming and wading pools, and the birds have their water misters.Now Houston Zoo guests have a brand new way to beat the summer heat the all-new Kathrine McGovern Water Play Park.

Located in a landscaped setting just inside the Houston Zoo s Medical Center admission gate near the Wildlife Carousel and Twiga Terrace in The African Forest, the McGovern Water Play Park is custom-designed for safe and cool summer fun.

Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily and free with paid admission, the latest addition to the Houston Zoo offers a cool summer oasis with 37 different water play features. From a friendly and colorful sea serpent, to a tall fill and spill water tree and a variety of water weavers , fountains, jets and misters, the McGovern Water Play Park is more than 13,500 square feet of family fun. The design also incorporates a seating wall allowing parents and grandparents to monitor their children and watch the fun.

The McGovern Water Play Park is also notable for its green design. The Park s water features are only activated when a guest steps on one of two touch sensors. When left untouched, the Park remains in sleep mode, conserving both water and electricity.
