HOUSTON -- A popular Memorial High School orchestra director has been reinstated. He returned to teaching Friday, Dec. 17 after being on administrative leave.
The Spring Branch Independent School District was investigating parent complaints about Bingieee Shui's discipline methods. Those included having students bend over with their backs to the class, and drawing the alphabet with their rear ends.
SBISD said it has addressed concerns regarding the Memorial High Orchestra program. It declined to explain further saying this was a personnel matter.
Shiu said I am pleased that Spring Branch ISD has completed its investigation and that I am back in the classroom.
Their full statements follow.
The original investigation was triggered by parents who found out Shiu had taken his wife and two sons on annual orchestra trips paid for by parent funds, without the general knowledge of the parents. This had gone on for 16 years.
SBISD also tells 11 News, its police department has completed its investigation into financial issues with the orchestra and has turned over that information to the Harris County District Attorney's office.
