WASHINGTON The Transportation Security Administration says it s changing its method of patting down airline passengers at checkpoints across the country.
The TSA would not say specifically what the new method is. But a law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the new security technique, says the change involves moving from a screener s hand pat to more of a hand-sliding motion during the screening process.
TSA spokeswoman Kristin Lee says the agency regularly reviews and updates its screening procedures and airport screeners will continue to use the pat-down method to help detect hidden and dangerous items like explosives or bomb parts.
ABC and NBC first reported the new policy on Thursday.
