HOUSTON Firefighters rescued residents from a house fire Thursday afternoon in west Houston, fire officials said.

According to the Houston Fire Department, it started at around 4:15 p.m. at a home in the 1900 block of Manila Lane.

Firefighters encountered significant smoke and fire on arrival, but were able to extinguish the fire in less than 30 minutes.

No injuries were reported. One resident was transported to the nearby hospital for reasons not related to the fire.

The home suffered significant damage, fire officials said.
