TEXAS CITY, Texas It is not a law that is blocking College of the Mainland officials from stating why they are seeking the termination of tenured professor David Michael Smith, but the college s practice.
College of the Mainland President Beth Lewis has said in the past that she was legally prohibited from stating the cause for seeking Smith s termination. But the college s attorney said in an email that it was the college s practice not to comment on pending employment or litigation matters.
Smith has taught at the college for 15 years and was informed in May of a Level 4 discipline action, which is a request for termination that must be voted upon by the board of trustees.
