COLLEGE STATION Texas A&M University police are asking for the public s help as they continue to look for missing Aggie freshman wide receiver Thomas Johnson.
Johnson was last seen leaving his off-campus apartment in College Station on Monday around 5 p.m. He was wearing a black jacket, black shorts and grey shoes. He was also wearing music headphones at the time.
The freshman has played in all 10 games this season, started two and has 30 catches for 339 yards and touchdown, which came in a game against Louisiana Tech.
In a statement released by Texas A&M, head coach Kevin Sumlin expressed his concern about the whereabouts and safety of Johnson.
Authorities are working closely with his family, friends and law enforcement agencies to help locate him, said Sumlin. Thomas is a tremendous student-athlete, greatly admired by his fellow teammates and all of us on the coaching staff.
Johnson is from the Dallas area and police said he may have traveled to visit family and friends.
His mother said she was praying for some good news.
I know God is in it, said Linda Hanks. And if he s in it, it s going to be OK. But that doesn t stop me from crying, doesn t stop me from wondering and doesn t help me sleep.
Students around campus expressed disbelief.
Everyone s going to worry about it and our prayers go out to the family, said Tom Ware. I hope he s safe wherever he is and I just hope he s found.
Johnson is an only child.
His mom said the two are extremely close.
She was headed back to College Station from the Dallas area on Wednesday to stay close to authorities working the case.
