THE WOODLANDS, Texas The 2nd Annual Habitat for Humanity Road Rally took to the streets of Montgomery County to raise money for their next project. This year twenty-four teams participated in the event for a myriad of prizes and bragging rights.
Coordinated by Barbara McGregor, co-chair of Women Build of Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity, the Road Rally challenges the two, three or four-person teams to solve challenges along a course that traversed Montgomery County, starting and finishing at the BMW dealership on the I-45N frontage road in The Woodlands. BMW-Mini of The Woodlands generously donates their cars for participants to test drive in the Rally.
The Willbillies, consisting of Larry Chaney, Butch Juelg, Valarie Iltis, and Nishae Brooks, won on points as determined by panel of judges from the community. The team represented Lone Star College Montgomery and the Chaney CPA firm.
The Golf Guys, a foursome who play golf regularly, came in second, underscoring the significance of working with a cohesive team. The team included Chuck McGregor, Cesar Espino, Bruce Ference, and Francis Foret. Also of note...the IWowWe Road Warriors of Brandon Barlett, Marcus Dangerfield, Christopher Matheson, and Crysta Veillon, who best exemplified the spirit of the event in their Road Warrior garb. IWowWe.com and Woodforest Development were both majors sponsors of this event.
The prizes were donated by area businesses and merchants that were presented by emcee, Dana Tyson, of the Sunny 99.1 FM morning broadcast.
The funds raised by registration fees and sponsorships, will help fund the Habitat for Humanity s upcoming Women Build project, an 1,100 sq. ft. house that will be built primarily by women, said McGregor. The project will commence in January, in Cedar Creek, an all Habitat neighborhood in Montgomery County. Successful applicants for Habitat homes are hard-working low-income residents of our community. They must commit to hands-on participating throughout the building phase and then purchase their homes through a 20-year no-interest mortgage provided by Habitat.
The Road Rally and other annual fundraisers help Habitat for Humanity to raise the necessary funds to build future projects, while working together on a home provides a team-building opportunity for area businesses. The next fundraising event will be their Home for the Holidays annual luncheon on November 7, at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel and Convention Center. Tickets are available on the Habitat for Humanity website.
