HOUSTON The Houston Texans traded third year corner back Sherrick McManis to the Chicago Bears on Friday for fullback Tyler Clutts.

The Northwestern University graduate was taken by the Texans in the 5th round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

Sherrick was an excellent special teams player for us, and gave us an opportunity to get a young fullback and see how that s going to work out, said Texans head coach Gary Kubiak. We had a little bit of a surplus there and deciding between the corners and the safeties was probably the most difficult task today.

In his two years with the Texans, McManis played in 23 regular season games, totaling up 18 tackles, forcing two fumbles and picking up one interception. McManis was also used as a kick returner during the 2011 season. On 10 attempts, he picked 205 yards, his longest being 45.

Clutts comes to the Texans after having bounced around several leagues, including the Canadian Football League. Three years after leaving Fresno State, he signed with the Cleveland Browns before being picked up by the Bears last year.

We think he s got a lot of ability and he s a young, ascending player. So we got a lot of catching up to do, said Kubiak. We ll get him in here tomorrow (Saturday) and get him started, but we think he can help this team.

Clutts played in all 16 games last season with the Bears, catching 8 passes for 48 yards.
