HARRIS COUNTY, Texas-- Smoke filled the emergency room at the Houston Northwest Medical Center on FM-1960 early Thursday, forcing patients out into the cold, firefighters said.

It was around 1:30 a.m. when employees said they started seeing smoke coming into the building through the air vents. They evacuated the emergency room of about 20 to 25 people while firefighters arrived at the scene.

Investigators discovered a mechanical failure in the heating system caused a belt to melt, blowing smoke into the E.R.

No injuries were reported, but a section of the medical facility was closed for several hours while big fans cleared the smoke out of the building.
