HOUSTON The eighth West Nile case was reported in Houston Tuesday, health department officials said.

The discovery marks the sixth diagnosis this month.

An elderly man in southwest Houston died from the virus last week.

Twenty-three people in Harris County have died from the virus since it first appeared in the United States a decade ago.

Mosquitoes are the primary carriers of the disease. Health officials advise wearing mosquito repellant and getting rid of any standing water near your home.
