HOUSTON A series of holdups at a north Houston strip center placed merchants and customers on edge Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities said a suspect wielding a large hunting knife robbed a Shipley Donuts store and a Jack in the Box restaurant in the 1700 block of West Mount Houston Road.

Surveillance video from the donut shop showed the suspect handing the clerk a note demanding money.

In recent months, a number of nearby businesses have been robbed. A gunman hit a Subway restaurant three times during the month of June. An insurance business was also robbed.

The owner of a beauty supply shop said his place had been broken into a burglarized more times than he could remember.

The crime rate is extremely bad, said shop owner K King. I feel extremely dangerous running a business over here.

Some customers said they would be extra cautions shopping in the area.

It kind of makes me feel uncomfortable, said Keisha Collier. There should be more security in this area if it s happening in broad daylight.

So far police have not made any arrests. Anyone with information was being urged to contact HPD.
