AUSTIN, Texas As the show goes on at Austin's South By Southwest festival, the grieving is just beginning for the families of two people who died and 23 others who were injured early Thursday morning when a suspected drunk driver plowed through crowds of revelers.

Jamie West of Austin was riding on a moped with her husband, Evan. Jamie, 27, was killed; Evan remains in critical condition.

Steven Craenmehr, 35, was riding his bicycle when police say he was struck and killed. He's originally from the Netherlands and was visiting Austin for the South By Southwest festival.

Police arrested 21-year-old Rashad Owens, a rapper from Killeen, shortly after the crash. He was in Austin to perform at a club.

Austin's police chief indicated he believes Owens was drunk, but blood samples are still pending.

At age 19, Owens pleaded guilty to a DUI in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident, but that charge was dismissed.

In 2010, Owens was arrested by Killeen ISD for criminal trespassing.

Just hours after the terrifying event, South By Southwest officials announced the shows will go on.

The mood is definitely more somber at the festival this year, especially along Red River Street, the scene of the carnage.

But music filled the air on Thursday night, and fans packed venues along the street.

Not far away, a memorial grew as people paid their respects.

It's unfortunate that somebody doing something dumb could affect so many people, said Muhammad Yasin of Austin. At least we're all thinking about it and trying to be safe.

Annie Acosta of Austin said she was trying to have a good time. But remembering those that lost their lives. Just the event that happened here, but trying to appreciate what this is all about, she said.

The excitement surrounding South By Southwest is certainly still evident. We saw it as pop music superstar Lady Gaga left her concert on Wednesday night, her thoughts also with the victims.

I'm so sorry, she said, holding her hand to her heart.
