SAN ANTONIO -- A former mayor will soon receive a great honor from the World Affairs Council of San Antonio.
Henry Cisneros will receive the International Citizen Award for 2014.
Former President Bill Clinton will be the keynote speaker at the function. Not only are both great friends but President Clinton is no stranger to the Alamo City.
He loves Mexican food and he loves Mi Tierra, Gerardo Carvajal, manager Mi Tierra.
Gerardo Carvajal is a big fan of former President Bill Clinton and he'd be honored to have him back at his restaurant. That may just happen next month.
San Antonio will enjoy the president being here and he will enjoy being here, said former mayor Henry Cisneros.
Former Mayor Henry Cisneros has a long personal and political history with the former president. Cisneros served in the Clinton cabinet as secretary of housing and urban development.
I've taken him to Mi Tierra where he ordered the classic Mexican plate, said Cisneros.
Cisneros said he asked President Clinton to travel to the Alamo City not just for lunch but for an event on behalf of the World Affairs Council of San Antonio. On February 26, Cisneros will receive the International Citizen Award for 2014.
They asked me to choose someone I think would be the best representative of international progress and my first choice was President Clinton, said Cisneros.
Cisneros said President Clinton did not hesitate and altered his schedule to attend the event at a River Walk hotel next month and deliver the keynote speech.
He said the former president will be able to share his global experience with the World Affairs Council and even take-in some of the south Texas culture.
