LIBERTY COUNTY, Texas A 22-year-old man wanted on a manslaughter charge surrendered to the Liberty County Sheriff s Office on Thursday, deputies said.

Michael Gary Shannon III, of Hull, Texas, was indicted by a Liberty County grand jury on Sept. 26 for a charge of manslaughter in connection with a vehicle wreck that killed a baby, deputies said. The fatal wreck happened in May 2012 near FM 770 and FM 160.

The crash investigation was conducted by another agency, but prior to Shannon s surrender on Thursday, the warrant had not been served.

In recent days, Liberty County deputies had received information that Shannon was in the Beaumont area and a telephone number was provided.

On Thursday, deputies contacted Shannon by phone, and advised him that a warrant for manslaughter was outstanding for his arrest.

Shannon told deputies he was unaware that he had been indicted, and that he would come to the Sheriff s Department to surrender on the charge.

Shannon is being held in the Liberty County jail and is not eligible for bond.
