SAN ANTONIO -- An officer who was hurt after suspects fired at his police car has been released from the hospital.
Investigators said 51-year-old Reynaldo Bustos, a seven-year veteran of the force was injured while responding to a call around 6 a.m. Saturday near W. Old U.S. Highway 90 and Callaghan Road.
According to police, Officer Bustos attempted to pull over the truck when shots rang out. The officer was struck by flying glass and debris.
The computer exploded in his face -- glass in his eyes, cuts into his face, SAPD Chief William McManus said. Inside the truck, we found an AR-15 assault rifle with a scope mounted. said Chief McManus.
According to police, the suspects, identified as Rene Alfaro and Oscar Padilla, sped off and abandoned their truck at Rodriguez Park. They were later arrested at a nearby mobile home park.
Officer Bustos was transported to University Hospital to be treated for facial and critical eye injuries, according to a release.
Police said both suspects face attempted capital murder of a police officer and deadly conduct.
