CHANNELVIEW, Texas -- A homeowner in Channelview is fighting to get his children and dogs back after all of them were taken into custody Thursday afternoon.

Kenneth Battle hasn't been charged with anything but allegations of animal cruelty led the SPCA to showing up at his house in the 1800 block of Dominic Lane.

CPS came because the dogs were here, Battle said. They're trying to say that if the conditions were bad for dogs, they had to be bad for kids.

Authorities said the children, ages 6-17, were living in deplorable conditions with no food or water.

Battle wouldn't let us inside, but provided a reason.

I've been told not to do that anymore because I just hired an attorney, Battle said. It's just made up fabrications.

He said there were nine dogs and four puppies seized but five of the grown dogs were not his. Battle said he trains dogs and now has to explain to the owners what has happened.

The dogs are being evaluated to see if Battle will face any charges. CPS is hoping to place the children with relatives.
