HARRIS COUNTY, Texas A marijuana grow house operation worth $1.1 million was shut down in northeast Harris County overnight, deputies said.
Larry Blow, Sammy Ingle and James Gates were arrested after authorities raided what looked like a quiet suburban home, but behind the covered windows and air fresheners near all the doors was an elaborate criminal operation.
Deputies found hundreds of plants along with special equipment inside the home in the 12700 block of Blue Timbers Court.
KHOU 11 News was allowed to tour the home, which was allegedly rented by one of the suspects. But what led authorities to the massive discovery?
Precinct One Constable Al Rosen and Chief Kevin Maples told us their environmental unit found 200 pounds of marijuana dumped in a field near Hobby Airport about a month ago. It was very unusual, to say the least.
I mean they dumped everything, all the chemicals, all the marijuana, all the plants, everything and left evidence behind which led us to this residence, Constable Rosen said.
So they set up surveillance and waited for the right time to move in.
Hundreds of plants were cut and bagged as evidence. Investigators also confiscated thousands of dollars in cash. An electrical box outside the home appeared to be tampered with.
Neighbor Dora Rodriguez said she and her husband felt something strange was happening in the house across the street.
We never smelled anything, but we always thought it was weird that a single guy lived in a big ole house), she said.
Now they know exactly what was going on. In fact, the entire neighborhood does.
Officials said the suspects may face extra charges because the grow house was very close to an elementary school.
