HOUSTON - Hundreds customers and workers were evacuated from a northwest Houston Walmart Thursday night after the store filled with smoke, firefighters said.

Officials said it was around 9:30 p.m. when the Houston Fire Department was called to the Walmart on Highway 290 at Tidwell. HFD firefighters found smoke inside the store.

An investigation revealed a heater blower burned up, melting a belt inside the motor. It took about 45 minutes to clear the smoke out of the store so employees could reopen it.
