BEAUMONT, Texas -- A Southeast Texas man faces 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to killing a day care worker in an apparent domestic dispute over their son.

Prosecutors in Beaumont say formal sentencing is scheduled Wednesday for 39-year-old Travis Wade Smith of Nederland.

Smith on Monday pleaded guilty to murder in a plea agreement over the May fatal shooting of 36-year-old Hollie Crenshaw. Police say the woman was gunned down outside the Nederland day care center where she worked. No youngsters were present.

The Beaumont Enterprise reports the couple had been in a dispute over their 4-year-old son.

Police say Smith surrendered shortly after the killing.
