HOUSTON -- Over the next three days more than 5000 volunteers from Starbucks will converge on Lyons Avenue with big intentions.

Eighty homes will be repainted and repaired, 100 lots cleaned up and a new community garden is being built, among other things.

This is an image for us of what Fifth Ward is going to be, said Michael Emerson, Chairman of the Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation. We re creating an economically diverse, ethnically diverse, economically strong, new neighborhood here in Houston.

He said maybe it will have its own Starbucks one day. The coffee giant is pouring $22 million into the project.

When I walked through the Fifth Ward and saw the conditions of the houses and really the people in need, I just thought this is where we need to be, said Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz.
