GALVESTON, Texas Galveston s city manager recommends axing the island s Clean Team, a sort of quick-reaction force for litter and weed complaints, to fill an $80,000 shortfall in the proposed budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year.

Dissolving the three-member team would save about $100,000 in Parks and Recreation Department expenses from the city s general fund that would otherwise go to pay team members salaries, City Manager Michael Kovacs said.

Kovacs is recommending terminating one Clean Team employee and shifting the others into two open positions in the parks department, he said.
