HOUSTON Friday is expected to bring record setting hot temperatures to the Houston area before a much-anticipated cool front settles in over the weekend.

We are possibly going to break some records today, said KHOU 11 News Meteorologist Chita Johnson. Houston s record high temp for this day was 98, set in 1963. Today we re already forecasting a high of 99 degrees.

Temperatures will soar into the upper 90s by Friday afternoon, with a heat index between 102 and 106 in northern counties. Toward the coast, conditions will be similar and very muggy.

Saturday, things finally begin to change for southeast Texas as a cool front moves in from the north.

The 7-day forecast shows a 20-percent chance of rain for Saturday with a high temp of only 93 degrees. Sunday it gets even better with no chance of rain and a high temp of only 88 degrees.

Overnight lows starting Sunday will drop into the mid-60s, and the lower temps continue all the way through next week.

Looking elsewhere, there are some remnants of Isaac still swirling around in the Gulf, but what was once a 40-percent chance of it reforming is now a much disorganized system.
